China openly supports Iran Strait of Hormuz

China openly supported Iran on the matter of the Strait of Hormuz. China’s Minister of Defence, Admiral Dong Jun, said that China is fully committed to peace and stability in the world. He also confirmed that China’s ships are moving in and out of the waters of the Strait of Hormuz.

China’s stance on Strait of Hormuz

He wrote on X, “We are committed to peace & stability in the world. We are monitoring the situation in the Middle East. Our ships are moving in and out of the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. We have trade & energy agreements with Iran. We will respect & honour them and expect others not to meddle in our affairs. Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz, and it is open for us.”

China is the largest buyer of Iranian oil

It is pertinent to mention that China and Iran have a good relationship with each other, and at the same time, China is the largest buyer of Iranian oil. According to the media reports, Iran imported around 1.4 to 1.8 million barrels per day in 2025-2026. The reports also confirmed that Iran’s 80% crude went to China.

US threatens to blockade Strait of Hormuz

Earlier, after the Islamabad peace talks, US President Donald Trump threatened to completely block the Strait of Hormuz. However, there are no official reports of a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz by the US.

The complete blockage of the Strait of Hormuz will directly affect China and other countries after a US-Iran war.

However, China’s Defence Minister confirmed the safe movement of their ships in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz.
