Citizens urged to avoid travel to Murree amid heavy snowfall, overcrowding

The Punjab government has urged the citizens to avoid travel to Murree amid heavy snowfall, overcrowding.

Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Uzma Bukhari has urged citizens to refrain from travelling to Murree due to the ongoing severe snowfall and overcrowding in the area.

Speaking on the current situation, Uzma Bukhari highlighted that Murree is already congested with tourists, with all hotels fully booked.

“Heavy snowfall continues in Murree, and the number of vehicles entering the city has far exceeded its capacity, putting immense pressure on traffic and civic amenities,” she stated

“At this point, there is absolutely no room for more vehicles or tourists in hotels. Citizens are requested to postpone their trips in consideration of their own and others’ safety, she reiterated.

The minister emphasised that the safety of tourists remains the top priority for the Punjab government, with all relevant authorities on high alert. She stressed that avoiding unnecessary travel is the best precaution under the current circumstances and appealed to the public to act responsibly until conditions improve.

Meanwhile, heavy snowfall continues in Malika Kohsar, Murree, leading to stranded vehicles on several roads and power outages in multiple areas.

In Abbottabad, Murree Road has been closed due to snow accumulation, and police have established checkpoints to prevent tourists from heading to Nathiagali. District administration teams have been deployed along with machinery to clear snow and restore accessibility.

Traffic police and rescue teams are actively working to evacuate tourists stuck on Murree Road. The Meteorological Department has forecast continued snowfall in the region, prompting authorities to once again advise citizens and visitors to avoid non-essential travel and exercise caution.
