LAHORE: Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz celebrated her 52nd birthday on Tuesday, with festivities organized across Punjab and other parts of Pakistan.

Supporters and members of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) marked the occasion by cutting cakes and sharing messages on social media.

Born on October 28, 1973, in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz is the daughter of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif and wife of Captain (R) Safdar.

Her political journey began during the 2013 general elections, when she played a leading role in the PML-N campaign that brought the party back to power.

In February 2024, she made history by becoming Punjab’s first woman chief minister. As a CM she has focused on women empowerment, education and youth.

Besides being a CM, Maryam Nawaz is also known for her glamour and fashion style, for which she is often criticised by her opponents.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is also her uncle, extended warm wishes to her on social media.

“Happy Birthday, Maryam Beti! May you be blessed with joy, health, and prosperity in all your endeavours,” he posted on X, adding that her dedication to their shared vision was bearing fruit. “May this year bring you more strength, success, and countless blessings,” he added.

Punjab’s Minister for Information and Culture Azma Zahid Bokhari also congratulated the chief minister, praising her efforts for the people of Punjab. She shared a special video on X, highlighting Maryam Nawaz’s public service and praying for her long life and health.

A special prayer ceremony was also held by Minority Advisory Council Punjab member Sohail Alam, who praised the chief minister’s inclusive leadership and initiatives for minority communities.

He said her policies have promoted economic development and interfaith harmony, making minorities in Punjab feel secure and empowered.
