The claim regarding the Chief Minister (CM) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Sohail Afridi’s arrest on Monday has come under question after footage reportedly showed him sitting inside a police van. However, reports say that he has not been arrested.
According to the details emerging from the incident, police officials asked Afridi to get out of the vehicle. However, he reportedly did not come out when asked by the police personnel.
Afridi later reached Lakshmi Chowk, where he got out of the police van himself.
Sohail Afridi is currently present at Lakshmi Chowk, reports say. This has raised questions over reports circulating about his arrest.
ATC orders blocking of CM KP’s passport
Earlier today, the Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) ordered the blocking of KP CM Sohail Afridi’s passport, along with the passports of 24 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) MNAs and MPAs.
ATC Judge Abu Alhasnat issued the order on a request from the investigation officer in a case registered at Kohsar Police Station.
The investigation officer told the court that the accused lawmakers could leave the country and avoid the investigation if their passports were not blocked.
The court approved the request and directed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to take action against the passports of the lawmakers named in the case.
Those named in the case include former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser, Shah Ahad, Mian Omar and Ajab Gul.
The court also ordered the blocking of the passports of Shahram Tarakai, Junaid Akbar, Shahid Khattak, Babar Saleem, Yar Wazir, Sher Ali Arbab, Iqbal Afridi and Dr Amjad.
The list further includes PTI leaders Arshad Omarzai, Zar Alam, Mian Umar, Akhtar Khan, Humayun Khan, Riaz Khan, Abdul Kabir Khan, Tufail Anjum, Asif Mehsud, Muhammad Usman, Irfan Saleem, Advocate Ali Zaman and Malik Shahab.
According to the court order, the available record shows that the accused are named in the case.
