Containers have been placed along Faizabad Interchange and 26 no Chungi on Wednesday ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) long march that has been called for September 27.
Both locations serve as major transit hubs that connect Islamabad and Rawalpindi to the rest of the country.
The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) issued a traffic advisory earlier, according to which several major routes will close from 11 PM tonight. These routes are to remain closed until further notice.
Additionally, some private transport service providers have also started cancelling evening journeys, according to reports today.
Reports indicate that this is being done because of the expected road closure. Another update claims that Islamabad and Rawalpindi bus terminals may stop operating after 8 PM.
However, these closure timings have not been confirmed yet.
Previously, Red Zone and the Extended Red Zone were sealed ahead of the planned PTI September 27 long march.
The Islamabad Capital Police also banned all types of leave for its officers and officials with immediate effect until October 5, 2026.
According to a circular issued by the Inspector General of Police Islamabad on September 18, casual, earned and ex-Pakistan leave have been suspended across the force. However, the order will allow emergency leave.
Will mobile and internet services be suspended?
Before this, it was announced that mobile and internet services will be suspended in selected areas of Attock and Rawalpindi.
The Punjab Home Department had approached the federal government with the request, citing the law and order situation.
Which motorways have been closed?
The M-1 motorway that connects Islamabad with Peshawar is expected to be closed for all types of traffic.
On the other hand, the M-2 motorway that connects Islamabad and Lahore will be closed to heavy traffic.
It is expected to operate only for light vehicles. This restriction will take effect from tonight at 11 PM.
Therefore, travellers have been advised to check beforehand.
