Lahore Police have registered more than 4,000 cases as part of a crackdown on the use of fake number plates and other attempts to conceal vehicle identities, DIG Operations Lahore Faisal Kamran has said. Speaking during an online Khuli Katcheri (open court) session hosted on Facebook Live, Kamran said criminals often used fake number plates to conceal their identities while committing offences and evade arrest.
He said the police were using modern technology and effective monitoring to identify and apprehend suspects, adding that the crackdown aimed to prevent criminals from exploiting fake number plates to escape the law. Kamran maintained that legal action would be taken against all violations without discrimination, regardless of their nature or scale. He added that compliance with the law was mandatory for everyone.
During the online session, residents of Shadbagh raised concerns about street fights and drug peddling, while complaints were also received about the sale of narcotics, including crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, in the Kahna area.
The DIG Operations directed the relevant officers to investigate the complaints and take immediate action. He described drug trafficking, particularly the sale of ice, as a serious threat to the younger generation and stressed that those involved would face action without discrimination.
Kamran said the online e-Kutchery provided citizens with a direct platform to submit complaints and suggestions. The feedback helps police identify public concerns, issue instructions to the relevant officers and monitor progress on corrective measures. He reaffirmed the Lahore Police’s commitment to resolving citizens’ complaints promptly, improving public-friendly policing and making the city safer.
