Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Kundi has strongly criticised Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.
Kundi said that Fazlur Rehman had no complaints about the state or its system when he was enjoying ministerial positions and other privileges. He added that if the JUI-F chief has so many issues with the state, he should move to Afghanistan.
Faisal Karim Kundi questioned why he had no objections to the state during the Legal Framework Order (LFO) era or when plots and other benefits were distributed in the name of martyrs.
He said Fazlur Rehman had no complaints about the state when he was enjoying positions, ministries and privileges, but started making anti-state statements after losing power.
The KP Governor also strongly criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership and its supporters.
He recalled that PTI leaders had previously said that Fazlur Rehman was not a ‘Maulana’. However, he said that the same PTI leaders are now standing behind him and offering prayers alongside him out of their hunger for power.
Background
Earlier this week, Maulana Fazlur Rehman accused the federal government of misusing the Constitution by imposing governor’s rule and an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He also criticised Defence Minister Khawaja Asif for failing to protect Parliament and called for a new Charter of Democracy to prevent unconstitutional actions and political violence.
Fazlur Rehman further said that Pakistan belonged to all its citizens, not just military officers or generals. His remarks drew a strong reaction from the government, with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi saying he had lost respect for the JUI-F chief.
Earlier, a journalist said that he was threatened with death, harassed at gunpoint, and had dogs set loose on him while reporting on encroachments at a madrassa linked to Maulana Fazlur Rehman in Islamabad.
According to Sarwar, students present at the madrassa threatened him, unleashed dogs on him, and intimidated him by pointing firearms at him.
