Destiny 2 joins the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog

Sony has revealed that the Destiny 2: Legacy Collection will be added to the Game Catalog of PlayStation Plus on June 9, specifically for Premium and Extra subscribers, as part of the Days of Play event.

This Legacy Collection includes Destiny 2 along with various weapon packs (Beyond Light, Shadowkeep, Forsaken) and major expansions, which include The Witch Queen, Nightfall, and The Final Shape.

Destiny 2 will be included in the Game Catalog on the same day that its final update is released. On May 21, Bungie announced the cessation of active development for the live-service looter shooter.

“While our affection for Destiny 2 remains unchanged, it has become evident that after The Final Shape, we have reached a point where our shared worlds, and Destiny, must continue beyond Destiny 2,” Bungie stated.

A report from Bloomberg further indicates that Bungie is currently planning to implement a significant number of layoffs as it determines the future direction of the studio.

Earlier this year, Bungie launched the extraction shooter Marathon, which, despite receiving positive feedback, has faced challenges in attracting a large player base.

The Game Catalog of PlayStation Plus, which includes games for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, is accessible to subscribers of its higher tiers, above the Essential level.

This service serves as Sony’s response to Xbox Game Pass, providing hundreds of games for subscribers to download and explore. The remainder of June’s Game Catalog lineup will be disclosed next month.

Destiny 2 is a free-to-play action MMO first-person shooter developed by Bungie.

Originally launched in 2017, the game has established a significant legacy centered around cooperative raids, competitive PvP, and a continuously evolving sci-fi universe.
