The Punjab government has approved an amendment to the digital arms licence.
The government made reforms to its agreement with Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
The new amendment introduced by the Punjab government will allow citizens to obtain verifiable digital credentials for arms licences.
Under the revised arrangement, digital credentials linked to Punjab arms licences will be issued through the Pak ID Wallet, enabling licence holders to access and verify their credentials digitally.
The agreement between the Punjab Home Department and NADRA has been extended until December 31, 2026, covering the period from January 1, 2023 to the end of 2026.
Officials said the digital system is intended to make arms licence verification faster, easier and more secure.
The amended agreement removes provisions related to single sign-on authentication and shared logins following technical and security concerns.
The Punjab Information and Technology Board (PITB) also recommended removing the single sign-on provision, and the revised agreement was approved after a legal review.
The initiative is expected to reduce reliance on physical documents and make it easier for licence holders to prove the status of their licences when verification is required.
NADRA introduces new facility for arms licence holders
Services for the renewal, modification and issuance of duplicate computerised arms licences are now also available at the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) offices.
According to directions issued by the Ministry of Interior, citizens seeking to renew, modify or obtain a duplicate computerised arms licence should now visit the designated licence counters at NADRA offices.
In an awareness message, NADRA informed citizens that various arms licence-related services are being provided at dedicated counters in its offices.
According to the instructions, holders of arms licences that have been cancelled by the Ministry of Interior can also approach the relevant NADRA counter to apply for renewal.
Citizens can also update personal information mentioned on their arms licence, including their photograph, name, father’s name, current address and permanent address, in accordance with their identity records.
