The government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa officially launched the Digital Driving Licence system which is a significant step towards modernisation of public services in the province.
Reportedly, the initiative is a part of a larger drive of digital governance and is geared towards streamlining the process of providing driving licences through an entirely paperless system.
Officials affirm that the new system will lead to better transparency, efficiency, and even more convenient to the citizens. The transition to a digital framework will also help to reduce time wastages and increase the overall quality of service provision in the province.
The provincial government said that the initiative was a big step in its reform agenda and the need to put more emphasis on e-governance and online services, as well as the solutions to digital payments.
The system is at its pilot stage with 19964 learner licences and 2212 permanent licences issued already.
The citizens can obtain the licences through the free app, called Dastak, in their mobile devices or through the official website, where no physical offices are required to be visited.
It has advanced functionalities like AI-based facial recognition, medical certification, and the verification of QR code as well as centralised database to guarantee accuracy and security.
According to authorities, the initiative embodies a reorientation to contemporary governance practice, to provide quicker, more convenient, and transparent licensing services.
It is hoped that the digital system will slowly start eliminating the traditional manual processes throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Driving licence system becomes completely paperless
In a separate development, Inspector General (IG) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, has taken a major step to modernise the licensing system by making the Islamabad Traffic Police licensing process completely paperless.
IG Islamabad formally inaugurated the paperless licensing system. Chief Traffic Officer Muhammad Sarfraz Virk and other traffic officials were also present on the occasion.
The IG reviewed all paperless counters and issued directives regarding the new system. Speaking at the event, he said the initiative has been introduced to facilitate citizens and save their valuable time.
Previously, applicants had to fill out medical forms, attach photographs, and submit multiple documents. Now, citizens no longer need to bring any documents, photocopies, or photos.
He further stated that the entire process from medical examination to licence issuance has now been made fully paperless. He appreciated the Chief Traffic Officer and his team for completing the project in a short period of time.
The IG also announced that the licensing fee system will soon be digitised. Citizens will now only need to bring their national identity card to obtain a driving licence from Islamabad Traffic Police.
