QatarEnergy declared force majeure following an attack on an LNG production facility at Ras Laffan on March 4, 2026. According to officials, the force majeure has not yet been formally lifted, adding to uncertainty over LNG supplies to Pakistan.
In response, authorities are managing domestic gas supplies by prioritising availability during peak cooking hours to ensure consumers have access to gas for essential household needs.
The restrictions come as Pakistani households are already under financial pressure from rising energy costs. Higher electricity and gas prices have increased the burden on consumers, particularly those dependent on gas for daily cooking and other household requirements. Meanwhile, LPG prices have also risen, adding to the difficulties faced by households relying on alternative fuel. The price of LPG increased by Rs4.33 per kilogram from September 1.
The government is continuing to monitor the LNG supply situation and domestic gas demand. Further decisions regarding gas distribution and supply hours will depend on the availability of imported LNG and the overall demand for gas across the country.
