US President Donald Trump has said the United States has “already won” its war with Iran, but warned that American forces would not withdraw quickly.
Speaking during an address in the state of Kentucky, Trump told supporters that the campaign had significantly weakened Iran’s military capabilities.
“We have already won the war in many ways,” he said. “But we do not want to leave quickly.”
The remarks come as the conflict, involving US and Israeli military operations against Iranian targets, enters its second week and continues to draw international attention.
President praises US military operations
During the speech, Trump praised what he described as the “brilliant work” of the US armed forces.
He said Iranian military infrastructure had been heavily damaged by air and missile strikes.
According to the president, Iran’s naval forces, air defence systems and communications networks had been largely destroyed.
“They have nothing left in a military sense,” he said, adding that the campaign had moved “far ahead of schedule.”
Trump also repeated his claim that Iran had been preparing an attack on the US and its allies in the region, including countries in the Gulf.
He said the US acted to prevent what he described as an imminent threat, though officials have not publicly presented detailed evidence to support the claim.
War to end soon
US President Donald Trump also made a very confident statement regarding the ongoing conflict against Iran, indicating a quick end to the war.
In an interview with the American news website ‘Axios’, President Trump made it clear that Iran has been damaged much more than expected, and there are no major targets left to target there.
President Trump said that the military operation is moving much faster than planned and that all the targets that were set for six months have been achieved ahead of time.
He claimed that “the war is going very well, there is very little left in Iran now, and it will all be over when I want it to be.”
The President added that Iran is now having to pay the price for the destruction it has been wreaking for the past 47 years.
During his speech, President Trump also strongly criticised Iran’s regional role and said that Tehran’s hostility is not limited to the US and Israel, but has also become an enemy of the Gulf states and has been targeting them as well.
According to the president, the decision to end the war is now entirely in his hands, and he will soon bring this campaign to its logical conclusion after breaking Iran’s strategic back.
Conflict continues despite claims of progress
Despite declaring the operation a success, Trump said the military campaign was not finished.
“We’ve already won in many ways, but we haven’t won enough,” he told the audience, suggesting that further action may be needed before the US considers ending the operation.
The conflict began after large-scale US and Israeli strikes targeted Iranian military sites earlier this year.
Iran has since carried out retaliatory attacks on regional targets and shipping routes, raising concerns about wider instability and energy supply disruptions.
Economic concerns at home
Trump’s visit to Kentucky was also aimed at addressing domestic issues, particularly the cost of living and energy prices.
Officials say the war has complicated the administration’s economic message, as oil prices and market uncertainty have increased during the conflict.
The president used the event to argue that the economic impact would be temporary and that prices would stabilise once the military campaign was complete.
