The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued a rapid alert after nine fake and illegal medical products were identified in Karachi’s markets.

The products include mouthwashes, eye treatments, ear creams and a skin lotion. Authorities have warned that using these products could pose serious health risks.

According to DRAP, the medicines were identified during ongoing inspections and enforcement operations against counterfeit medical products.

Samples were sent to the Drug Testing Laboratory in Sindh, where laboratory tests confirmed that the products were counterfeit.

DRAP identified four counterfeit mouthwashes sold under the names Total Care, Denzicor, Anti Plaque and Happy Tooth Kids.

The authority also identified a fake Baby Eye Spray and a counterfeit Tobramycin Ophthalmic Solution, both marketed for eye conditions.

Two ear creams, Vital Ear Cream and Baby Care Ear Cream, were also declared counterfeit.

In addition, batch number 002 of Magic Lotion, a product marketed for skin conditions, was identified as fake.

Some of the counterfeit products carried the addresses of LC Pharma and New Herbal Care in Karachi.

DRAP warned that the safety and medical benefits of these products could not be guaranteed.

Using counterfeit medicines may expose patients to unknown substances or prevent them from receiving proper treatment.

DRAP orders action against counterfeit medicines

DRAP instructed the relevant authorities to immediately remove and seize the identified counterfeit products from Karachi’s markets.

They also called for urgent measures to prevent their further distribution and sale.

Distributors, pharmacies and medical stores have been directed to report suspected counterfeit medicines without delay.

Consumers are advised to check medicine packaging, batch numbers and product details before purchasing medical products.
