The government of Pakistan is planning to introduce an e-immigration app for the facilitation of travellers.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is preparing to launch an e-immigration app aimed at digitising the immigration process and making it easier for passengers to complete travel formalities.
The app will allow travellers to check information about their travel documents and determine whether they meet the requirements to travel before arriving at the airport.
The FIA will review passengers’ documents through the system. Travellers whose cases require further clarification will be notified through the app.
Passengers cleared for travel will receive a QR code.
Their information can then be accessed through the immigration system when they arrive at the airport, according to details of the planned system.
The app is also expected to support immigration clearance and other procedures required before passengers travel.
The FIA plans to use information collected through the system to obtain passenger data and carry out risk profiling as part of the immigration process.
Officials say development of the application is in its final stages.
The introduction of the system is expected to shift some immigration checks to the period before passengers reach the airport, potentially reducing the time required for clearance at immigration counters.
The move is part of efforts to digitise Pakistan’s immigration procedures and streamline passenger processing at airports.
