An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale jolted Swat and surrounding areas, according to the Seismological Centre. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 85 kilometres, with its epicentre located in the Hindu Kush mountain range, the centre said.
It is worth mentioning here that earthquake tremors were felt across Swat yesterday, a popular tourist destination in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as well as several surrounding areas. According to the Seismological Centre, the earthquake registered 4.0 on the Richter scale. Preliminary information indicated that the quake originated at a depth of approximately 154 kilometres, with its epicentre located in the Hindu Kush mountain range.
An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 was felt in Islamabad and several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including Peshawar, Mardan, Malakand, Swat and areas of Hazara in the last week of August. According to the earthquake monitoring centre, the earthquake was recorded at a depth of 187 kilometres beneath the surface. Its epicentre was in the Hindu Kush mountain region of Afghanistan.
Tremors were also reported in Mansehra and other parts of Upper Hazara, as well as surrounding areas of Swat. There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage following the earthquake. The tremors were felt across a wide area because of the earthquake’s depth and its location in the Hindu Kush region, a seismically active area where earthquakes are relatively common.
