Eid ul Azha 2026: Karachi cracks down on illegal cattle markets

Illegal cattle markets that have been set up across Karachi before Eid ul Azha 2026 have become a major problem for the administration, according to the reports today . Commissioner Karachi Hassan Naqvi has taken strict notice of the issue. He has directed all deputy commissioners to take immediate action against illegal markets.

According to the commissioner, only 21 regular cattle markets and the central cattle market have been officially allowed in the city.

However, several illegal markets were set up in different areas. These markets are causing traffic jams, sanitation issues, and other civic problems, which are troubling everyone.

During a meeting on the situation, deputy commissioners from different districts briefed the commissioner about the ongoing operations.

The deputy commissioner of District South said that an illegal cattle market on Ghulam Hussain Qasim Road in Kharadar had been removed.

The deputy commissioner of District Central said that three illegal cattle markets in Nazimabad were shut down.

Officials also took action against two illegal markets in District East and one near Qayyumabad Chowrangi in Korangi.

The administration said that illegal livestock markets were creating serious traffic problems for citizens.

The issue became worse as Eid ul Azha approaches, and the buying and selling of sacrificial animals increases across the city.

People from different civic groups welcomed the administration’s action. They also demanded regular operations against illegal cattle markets to help control traffic and sanitation problems in the city.

SSGC announces temporary gas shutdown

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a temporary suspension of gas supply in several areas of Karachi, according to the latest reports today. This is expected due to pipeline relocation work near Nipa Flyover for the Bus Rapid Transit project being carried out by TransKarachi.

According to the company, the work is part of the second phase of shifting a 20 inch high pressure gas pipeline to support ongoing BRT infrastructure development in the city.

The gas shutdown will take place between the night of Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, 2026.
