Are electricity prices about to rise again in Pakistan?

Electricity prices pakistan

The government of Pakistan announced on April 14 that every possible step is being taken to avoid an increase in electricity prices.

According to a post on X, the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) released a loadshedding schedule during peak hours.

The spokesperson stated that during peak hours (evening to late night), electricity demand increases, which may lead to load management in certain areas.

Therefore, a loadshedding from 05:00pm to 01:00am will be carried out to manage the electricity demand.

However, all possible measures are being taken to minimise inconvenience to consumers.

If necessary, adjustments in power supply may be made to maintain system stability.

The government has also taken steps to reduce electricity tariffs.

The consumers will be provided with electricity during off-peak hours, from 1:00am to 6:00am daily.

The Prime Minister has given special instructions to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply and provide maximum relief to consumers.

The electricity supply is being maintained to a large extent, even in the era of fuel price hikes.

The spokesperson of the Power Division has said that due to continuous heavy rainfall across the country, the electricity system is under pressure, and emergency repairs are being carried out at several locations.

The spokesperson added that reports circulating on social media about a collapse of the power system are baseless and misleading.

The system is functioning within normal limits, and relevant teams are working around the clock to ensure uninterrupted supply.

Temporary load management is being carried out in some areas due to faults caused by rain and technical issues.

Efforts are underway to restore affected feeders and transmission lines as soon as possible.

It is a matter of satisfaction that the country’s overall generation capacity is sufficient to meet demand, and the current situation is manageable.

Additionally, efforts are being made to increase gas supply for power generation, which is expected to further improve electricity availability.

The spokesperson emphasised that there is no nationwide power breakdown, and the situation remains under control.

Citizens are advised not to pay attention to rumours and rely only on official information.

The government is fully aware of the challenges and is taking all necessary steps to ensure a stable electricity supply and provide relief to the public.
