Islamabad’s popular F-9 Park, also known as Fatima Jinnah Park, is going to get major upgrades, including better lighting, a beautiful lake, coffee shops, improved walkways, and thousands of additional trees.
In a post on X, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi assured the public that the project would not cut a single tree.
He also said that no new concrete structures would be built, adding that the aim was to make F-9 Park greener, safer and more enjoyable for families and visitors.
F-9 Park holds a special place in the hearts of everyone living in Islamabad. Let me make it absolutely clear that Not a single tree will be cut 100% guaranteed. No new concrete structures. Instead, we are planning better lighting, a beautiful lake, coffee shops, improved walkways, and the plantation of thousands of additional trees. Our only goal is to make F-9 Park greener, safer, more beautiful, and more enjoyable for families and visitors. https://t.co/S6WZxwSmxx

The clarification came after environmental activists urged authorities to protect the park, which covers around 400 acres, and focus on planting more trees instead of unnecessary development.
In April, Naqvi had sought a comprehensive plan to transform Islamabad‘s F-9 Park along the lines of London’s Hyde Park.
Earlier, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) removed more than 29,000 paper mulberry trees as part of a drive to address pollen allergies.
This drew criticism from environmental advocates and residents, who questioned the removal of mature trees and the impact of infrastructure projects on Islamabad’s green cover.
