The Punjab government has seized a large quantity of expired imported food products on Thursday. The authority has also sealed two warehouses in Lahore after discovering that expiry dates had allegedly been changed before the items were sold in the market.
Punjab Chief Minister’s (CM) Special Assistant for Food Safety, Salma Butt, shared details of the operation on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter.
Fake Nutella, Biscoff being sold in Lahore
In the Township area of Lahore, authorities uncovered a facility where imported Pringles chips, fake Nutella chocolate spread, and Lotus Biscoff biscuits were allegedly being sold after their expiry dates had been changed.
Officials destroyed a large quantity of the products. They also arrested the owner and registered a case against him.
Salma Butt said that the crackdown was being carried out on the instructions of Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz to make sure that safe and quality food was being provided to the people across the province, especially children.

In a separate operation, officials raided a warehouse in Gulberg where imported Godiva chocolates, Loacker wafers, biscuits, and other chocolates were found with altered expiry dates. The products were allegedly being supplied to large retail stores.
She said that a First Information Report (FIR) would be registered against the warehouse owner. The expired products were destroyed, and the warehouse was sealed.

The incident also sparked strong reactions on social media, with many users calling for strict legal action against those involved.
One of the netizens, responding to the post on X, said, ‘All the big brand stores in Lahore also receive the same goods.’
The netizen further added that ‘these are items that are expiring from Europe and the Middle East, imported at cheap rates, and at the stalls named after doctors in Shah Alam Market, the dates are changed, and then the goods are sold in these malls and on motorways’.
