A jar of Nutella was seen floating freely in zero gravity within the cabin of the Orion spacecraft during the live stream of the NASA Artemis II mission on April 6.
It appeared approximately four minutes prior to the crew achieving a new record for the farthest distance humans have traveled from Earth.
This moment quickly gained popularity on social media, with numerous viewers humorously referring to it as the “best product placement ever” or an unintentional advertisement for the hazelnut spread.
“NASA spent $93 billion and Nutella got a free ad out of it,,” one Twitter user wrote. Another commented: “The best advertising Ferrero can have, and for free.”
Nevertheless, NASA press secretary Bethany Stevens informed the media, “NASA does not choose crew meals or food in association with brand partnerships. This was not a product placement.”
Artemis II, along with the now-famous jar of Nutella, is currently on their way back to Earth after successfully completing the lunar mission. The rocket is scheduled to land in the Pacific Ocean on Friday.
Artemis II mission all set to fly around the moon
Earlier, it was revealed that the crew of Artemis II includes three American astronauts and one Canadian. They will fly around the moon in Orion.
The course of the spacecraft was set after the main engine of Orion was fired on Thursday night.
The mission transpired amidst enhanced competition due to the rise of China in the space realm as the US tries to reassert its dominance.
The three American and one Canadian astronaut will have a 10-day mission aboard the Orion spacecraft on top of the Space Launch System rocket.
