Reports have emerged of fake Rs5,000 currency notes circulating in markets across Karachi. This has prompted traders to urge businesses and the public to remain vigilant during cash transactions.
According to local reports, fake Rs5,000 notes have recently been detected in different parts of the city. This has raised concern among traders and residents.
Counterfeiters are reportedly using various methods to pass the fake notes to shopkeepers and customers. The acceptance of these fake notes can cause financial losses.
Speaking on the issue, Karachi Electronics Dealers Association President Rizwan Irfan said several incidents involving fake Rs5,000 notes have been reported in the electronics market. He said the situation has created fear and uncertainty among traders.
Rizwan Irfan advised traders and the public to carefully check Rs5,000 notes before accepting them during buying and selling. He urged everyone to remain cautious to avoid financial losses.
How to spot fake Rs5000 notes
Recently, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) shared key security features of the Rs5,000 currency note.
According to the SBP, the Rs5,000 note is legal tender and includes several security features to prevent counterfeiting.
The note has a watermark of Quaid-e-Azam that becomes visible when held against the light.
It also includes an electrotype watermark that shows the number “5000” and a security thread with the denomination printed onto it.
Another feature is the see-through “5000” number, which appears complete only when the note is viewed in light.
The national flag on the front of the note is printed with colour-changing ink that looks different from different angles.
The SBP also said the note has raised printing that can be felt by touch. This includes on Quaid-e-Azam’s coat and the denomination. Three raised circles on the left side help visually impaired people identify the note.
A hidden “5000” can also be seen near Quaid-e-Azam’s portrait when viewed from a certain angle.
Under ultraviolet (UV) light, the security thread and other parts of the note glow in different colours.
