Pakistan, global users report Facebook, Instagram disruption

Today, Facebook and Instagram had a nationwide outage in Pakistan and in multiple other countries, leaving many users unable to log into their accounts.

Thousands of users complained about issues while logging into Meta’s platforms via the mobile apps or web browsers.

Many were met with an error message, that the account they were trying to access was temporarily unavailable due to a problem with the site, and to please try again later.

The outage-tracking site Downdetector saw reports of Facebook services issues surge around 1pm Pakistan time, signifying that many people reported problems with the service.

Twitter, now known as X, was also flooded with posts of whether people were having similar issues, as many turned to the platform to find answers.

It was not just Pakistan that was affected by the outage. People form many other countries also reported issues on Downdetector.

Instagram also had big problems, with its 2,829 reports from US users, the majority were about the mobile app.

Reuters reported that Facebook and Instagram were also affected in Singapore, with users having trouble accessing the platforms at times.

At the time of this writing, Meta has yet to make an official statement regarding the cause of the outage.

The company also failed to immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment by email.

The technical cause of the disruption and the length of time that it will take for services to return to normal are not yet known.

Users kept following up on the issue on outage tracking websites and social media, waiting for a response from Meta.
