Web desk: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has launched audits of high-end beauty parlours, aesthetic clinics, and doctors charging hefty fees. This move is a part of its efforts to expand the tax net in major cities.
In the first phase, audits will be conducted in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad.
According to sources, the FBR has already collected information about the location, brand, and other relevant details of beauty parlours and clinics to identify entities for taxation.
Audit notices have begun to be issued to expensive parlours and doctors operating in these cities.
In this initial phase, the incomes of 250 high-earning doctors will be audited, including 100 each in Karachi and Lahore and 50 in Islamabad.
In addition to the healthcare and beauty sectors, the FBR is also set to audit private companies in the paint sector to check for potential tax evasion.
The revenue authority has engaged 600 private auditors for these audits, with plans to add 200 more in the coming days.
Ultimately, a total of 2,000 private auditors will be deployed to strengthen tax compliance.
Sources confirmed that all private auditors will be required to maintain strict confidentiality regarding taxpayer information to ensure information security.
