Federal Government to shift oil from tankers to pipelines

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Government has planned to shift oil supply from transport to pipeline in the country, which will not only reduce costs but will also provide relief to consumers.

Reason behind the Step

The Petroleum Division said that the implementation of the plan to shift oil supply from transport to pipeline in the country will reduce transport costs and provide relief to consumers.

Currently, diesel is being supplied 100 per cent for transport supply in the country. In this regard, it was informed that 60 per cent of the supply of petrol across the country depends on transport.

Under the plan, a pipeline will be laid from Faisalabad to Thalian in the first phase, while the implementation of a tracker system has also been started to stop the illegal oil supply chain.

Petroleum Minister Briefing

Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervez Malik told journalists that the reform agenda has been implemented in the petroleum sector, the implementation of the agenda has stabilised gas prices, and the flow of circular debt in the gas sector has been reduced to zero.

He said that the government or consumers have to pay for the fuel they have consumed, and a high-powered committee has been formed to pay for the payments of three government companies.

He said that steps have been taken to bring new investment in the sector, attention is being paid to the problems of the oil supply chain and oil marketing companies, and the problems of payments to oil supply chain Oil Marketing Companies (OMC) from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) need to be resolved.

Ali Pervez Malik said that two to three meetings have been held with the Ministry of Finance regarding payments, and progress is expected in this regard in a week to 10 days.

He said that a new policy will be made regarding the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) industry, and the LPG sector is currently deregulated, while prices are being regulated.
