The Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice has directed the government to increase the salaries of federal law officers, according to reports on Thursday.
The decision was made during a meeting of the committee after members discussed the difference in salaries between federal and provincial law officers.
The committee chairman asked the relevant authorities to revise the salaries of federal law officers.
The committee also said that if the salaries are increased, federal law officers should not be allowed to continue private legal practice.
During the meeting, the Deputy Chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) requested more time to submit details about salaries and other benefits.
The committee accepted the request and directed NAB to provide the required information by July 30, 2026.
NEPRA increases salary of CPPA-G employees
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved salary increases and performance based incentives for employees of the Central Power Purchasing Agency Guarantee Limited (CPPA-G).
The approval was given as part of NEPRA’s market operation fee decision for the 2025-26 financial year.
Under the decision, CPPA-G employees will receive a 4.49 per cent salary increase to adjust for inflation. And a 6 per cent performance based increment. This will bring the total increase to 10.49 per cent.
NEPRA also approved a salary budget of Rs1.58 billion for the agency’s employees and allocated Rs249 million for performance incentives.
However, the regulator approved a smaller bonus amount than requested. CPPA-G had asked for Rs199 million in bonuses. But NEPRA approved Rs55.6 million, equal to one month’s basic salary for eligible employees.
The regulator also approved the hiring of 26 new employees with a budget of Rs109.7 million. It said any additional recruitment would need separate approval.
Before that, PESCO approved a one-month bonus for its employees for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
According to reports, the bonus will be given to employees working on regular, contract and deputation basis. They will receive an amount equal to one month’s basic salary.
