Field Marshal Asim Munir meets Iranian FM Araghchi in Tehran

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir in Tehran, Al Jazeera news reported.

According the media outlet, Field Marshal Asim Munir exchanged views on the latest diplomatic efforts and initiatives to prevent escalation of tensions and end the US-Israel war on Iran, according to a post on the foreign minister’s Telegram channel.

The meeting “lasted until late at night”, according to the post.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir arrived in Tehran as part of ongoing mediation efforts aimed at supporting regional diplomatic engagement and reducing tensions.

Upon his arrival at the airport, he was warmly received by Iran’s Interior Minister, Eskandar Momeni. The reception highlighted the continued high-level contacts between the two countries amid ongoing diplomatic initiatives in the region.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was also present at the airport to welcome the Pakistani delegation. His presence reflects Pakistan’s active diplomatic role in facilitating dialogue and supporting peace-related efforts between relevant regional stakeholders.

The visit comes as Pakistan continues to engage with Iranian authorities and other concerned parties in efforts to encourage dialogue and stability. Meetings during the visit are expected to focus on strengthening coordination and advancing mediation efforts.

Both sides have reiterated their commitment to maintaining communication channels and promoting regional peace through diplomatic means.

At the same time, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Friday that there are high chances that the agreement between the US and Iran will be finalised.

Marco Rubio also said that Pakistan is playing an important role as a key negotiator between the US and Iran. Marco Rubio also said that Tehran will abandon its nuclear program.
