Field Marshal Asim Munir completes Iran visit

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, has completed a one-day visit to Iran.

According to the press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Pakistan has stepped up its diplomatic efforts to help ease the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran.

Field Marshal Munir travelled to Iran with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi as part of Pakistan’s efforts to find a path towards de-escalation and lasting peace in the region.

During the visit, Field Marshal Munir held meetings with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Supreme Leader’s representative to the Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaei, parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.

The discussions focused on preventing further escalation, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and finding ways to bring the conflict to an immediate end, according to ISPR.

The two sides also discussed diplomatic efforts to resolve regional disputes through dialogue and negotiations.

Iranian officials praised Pakistan’s constructive role and sincere efforts to facilitate dialogue, reduce tensions and support a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The visit comes as concerns grow over the wider regional impact of the US-Iran confrontation, particularly the security of the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global energy shipments.

Pakistan has sought to position itself as a diplomatic bridge in efforts to reduce tensions and prevent the conflict from spreading further across the region.

Field Marshal Munir was received in Iran by Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and other senior Iranian civilian and military officials.

The visit is being seen as part of Islamabad’s broader diplomatic efforts to encourage de-escalation and a negotiated solution to the crisis.
