Two police personnel were martyred during a shootout in Khuzdar, including the first female constable in the history of Balochistan Police to lose her life in the line of duty.
Lady Constable Malik Naz and Head Constable Sami Ullah were killed on Monday when militants opened fire on a police team in Bajoi, a mountainous area about 35 kilometres from Khuzdar city. Three other officers were injured in the exchange of fire.
Police had launched a search operation in the area after receiving a robbery complaint. Khuzdar Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Abdul Qudus said Malik Naz joined the team to help search houses.
“Both martyred constables belonged to Khuzdar district,” ASP Qudus said, adding that security forces have started a search operation in the area to arrest the attackers.
Malik Naz had joined the Levies in 2013 to continue the service of her late husband, Abdul Ghani, who was martyred in 2011 while serving as a Levies officer. She is survived by three young children.
Officials and the public have paid tribute to her bravery.
Provincial Home Minister Ziaullah Langove praised the courage of the fallen officers and said the attackers will be brought to justice. “The sacrifices of police personnel in the fight against terrorism are a source of pride for the nation,” he said.
Shahid Rind, Assistant to the Chief Minister for Political and Media Affairs, said the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) is investigating the attack. He added that operations against criminals will continue and the writ of the state will be maintained.
People on social media also paid tribute to Malik Naz, calling her a brave daughter of Balochistan who sacrificed her life while defending her duty. Many described her story as one of courage and dedication.
