Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has departed on a key official trip to Egypt to attend the fourth meeting of the R-4 group,
As per details, foreign ministers from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Türkiye will discuss regional security and diplomatic developments.
According to foreign ministry official statement, “At the invitation of Foreign Minister of Egypt, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar will attend the 4th Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the R-4 Group of Countries, to be held in Cairo, Egypt, on 21 June 2026.”
The ministers will exchange views on peace, security and stability, while Dar is also expected to hold bilateral talks with his Egyptian counterpart and meet President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Prior to this, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said that the US-Iran technical talks were postponed due to Muharram.
Pakistan has said there are no obstacles preventing the start of US-Iran talks scheduled to take place in Switzerland.
Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar said the reported delay in launching the negotiations was linked to Iranian officials being engaged in religious observances for the month of Muharram.
He added that there are no structural or political barriers to beginning the talks, stressing that discussions should be completed within a 60-day period.
Earlier, the Swiss Foreign Ministry announced that the US-Iran talks scheduled for today have been cancelled.
“The discussion at Bürgenstock will not take place as planned today,” the ministry announced in a statement. “Consequently, the meeting announced yesterday is cancelled.”
In a separate statement, the ministry said that planned talks have been postponed.
“The planned talks between the US, Iran, Qatar and Pakistan have been postponed. Switzerland remains ready to facilitate these talks,” it added.
The statement came right after the White House announced that US Vice President JD Vance will not be departing for Switzerland as logistical details for expected technical talks with Iran remain unresolved.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also postponed his visit to Switzerland as making a ceremonial visit is less important than ensuring the effective implementation of commitments already agreed upon, according to diplomatic sources.
Sources said the agreement marked a major political breakthrough, making a ceremonial visit less important than ensuring the effective implementation of commitments already agreed upon. Pakistan’s role focused on securing a mutually accepted framework, easing tensions and establishing a structured roadmap for future engagement.
Officials said the next phase of the process will involve technical-level discussions on key issues, including sanctions relief, maritime security, nuclear-related measures, verification mechanisms, implementation timelines and regional assurances.
