Food Authority officials in Islamabad have destroyed 8,000 litres of adulterated milk after a raid while uncovering a fake production facility supplying milk in various parts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi during Ramzan.
The raid was carried out jointly by the Punjab Food Authority and the Islamabad Food Authority.
The operation took place at a unit in the I-10 Industrial Estate in Islamabad. Officials said they acted on intelligence reports about the sale of unsafe milk in the twin cities.
Ingredients and machinery seized
During the raid, authorities recovered materials allegedly used to prepare the fake milk. These included 336 litres of oil, 240 kilograms of vanaspati ghee and 350 kilograms of powdered milk.
Officials said the milk was being made by mixing powdered milk with ghee and other substances. Machinery used in the process was also seized.
According to the authorities, the product was unsafe for consumption and was intended for distribution across Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Wider crackdown underway
Officials said the raid was part of a broader campaign against milk adulteration. So far, 28 joint operations have been conducted, leading to the destruction of around 22,000 litres of adulterated milk.
They added that stricter enforcement in Punjab had pushed some networks to shift operations towards Islamabad, prompting closer coordination between the two food authorities.
Increased checks before Ramzan
Food safety checks are often stepped up before Ramzan, when demand for milk and dairy products rises.
Authorities said the aim of the operations is to ensure safe and hygienic food for consumers during the holy month.
Residents have been urged to report complaints or suspected adulteration through the food authority helpline 1223.
