The Standing Committee of the Punjab Assembly has issued important instructions to ensure the provision of free education to deserving children in private educational institutions across the province.
The Committee has directed all private schools across the province to provide free education to 10% of their students in line with the law.
Private schools have been given 10 days to implement the quota for deserving children, with authorities warning of strict action against institutions that fail to comply.
The issue was discussed during a meeting of the Standing Committee, where members expressed concern over the failure of many private schools to implement the legal requirement of providing free education to 10% of students.
Committee members suggested that the government should not rely solely on data provided by private schools. Instead, they recommended that the School Education Department itself identify and admit deserving children to private schools to ensure transparency and facilitate verification.
The committee chairman warned that the licences of schools failing to comply with the directive within the stipulated 10-day period should be cancelled.
During the meeting, the Secretary of the School Education Department informed the committee that data on the 10% free education quota would be collected from all private schools across Punjab.
