Emmanuel Macron, the President of the French Republic, held a call with the Prime Minister (PM) of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, where he acknowledged the positive conciliatory role of Pakistan in the ceasefire agreement between the United States (US) and Iran, today.
During the call, President Macron congratulated PM Shehbaz on Pakistan’s successful mediation efforts that have resulted in a ceasefire between the US and Iran.
The ceasefire agreement has brought both sides to the negotiation table, with the US-Iran peace talks set to take place in Islamabad tomorrow.
President Macron extended his good wishes to PM Shehbaz for success in the upcoming Islamabad peace talks.
PM Shehbaz, in turn, thanks the French President for supporting Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts. He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance to continue working towards peace and stability in the region.
Both of the leaders expressed their serious concern over the ongoing aggression in Lebanon despite the ceasefire announcement.
Lebanon has experienced a significant escalation in violence after the truce announcement.
Regarding this, Israel’s PM Benjamin Netanyahu said that the US-Iran ceasefire “will not include Hezbollah.”
Both PM Shehbaz and President Macron stressed the need to end the violence and killings and restore peace in the entire region.
Further, the two leaders agreed to remain in contact.
Islamabad sealed in view of US-Iran peace talks
Islamabad is under a ‘virtual seal’ as the capital prepares for holding the historic US-Iran peace talks.
The talks will begin tomorrow, on Friday, after a two-week ceasefire was announced between the two countries.
The US and Iranian delegations will start arriving tonight in the country.
US Vice President JD Vance, along with US Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, along with their security teams, are also expected to land in Islamabad tonight, according to sources.
As per the sources, delegation-level talks will be held tomorrow between the US and Iran, which Pakistan will mediate.
High-level talks between the US and Iran will be held on Saturday.
