Two holidays announced in Gilgit-Baltistan ahead of elections 2026

The authorities in Gilgit Baltistan (GB) have announced a two day holiday in all government schools and colleges across the region, according to reports on Thursday.

The decision has been made as preparations for the upcoming general elections are getting more intense.

According to the Chief Secretary of Gilgit Baltistan, all public educational institutions will remain closed on Friday and Saturday, on June 5 and 6.

The holiday has been announced because many schools and colleges are being used as polling stations.

According to the details, officials say that the decision will help in setting up polling stations in a proper way.

It will also help in the deployment of election staff and other arrangements for voting.

Most of the government schools and colleges in the region have been selected as polling stations. This means that many security arrangements and administrative work are needed before the election day.

Authorities also said that the holiday will help district administrations and election staff complete their work on time. This is expected to support a smooth and peaceful voting process.
