Hollywood is mourning the loss of Kaylee Hottle, the young actress best known for playing Jia in the Godzilla franchise, who has died at the age of 18 following a tragic car accident.
According to reports, Hottle’s father, Joshua Hottle, confirmed the heartbreaking news during a 23-minute livestream conducted in American Sign Language (ASL). He revealed that he was travelling to Maryland after receiving the devastating call to identify his daughter’s body.
Reports said Kaylee’s heart stopped while she was being transported to the hospital despite medical efforts to save her.
Hottle rose to international fame with her portrayal of Jia, the deaf orphan who shares a unique bond with Kong through sign language, in Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Her performance received widespread praise for bringing authentic deaf representation to one of Hollywood’s biggest blockbuster franchises.
In addition to her work in the MonsterVerse films, Hottle also appeared in NBC’s Magnum P.I. and had another project, What Doesn’t Kill Us, listed in pre-production on IMDb.
Her untimely death has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans and members of the entertainment industry, who are remembering her not only for her talent but also for inspiring young deaf audiences through her groundbreaking role on the big screen.
Rapper Lil Poppa passes away at age 25
Earlier, rapper Lil Poppa, original name Janarious Mykel Wheeler, was found dead Wednesday in Fulton County. He was 25 years old.
According to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office, he was pronounced dead at 11:23 a.m. local time.
The news has sent shockwaves through fans, fellow artists, and the wider hip-hop community, particularly as he had released new music just days before his passing.
