Following an increase in petroleum product prices, goods transporters have announced a 5% increase in freight charges.
President of the Goods Transporters Association, Malik Shahzad Awan, strongly condemned the hike in petroleum product prices, saying that the government’s decision to revise fuel prices on a daily basis was unacceptable and should be withdrawn immediately.
Malik Shahzad Awan said the nationwide strike had been postponed for 40 days on the government’s assurance, but most of the transporters’ demands remained unresolved.
He warned that if no progress was made on their demands within the stipulated period, goods transporters would once again launch a nationwide strike.
A day earlier, the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) announced new prices for petroleum products, increasing the rate of petrol and slightly increasing the rate of diesel.
According to the notification, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs 12.90 per litre. The price of high-speed diesel has increased by Rs 3.72 per litre.
The new price of petrol has been fixed at Rs 358.77 per litre. Similarly, the new price of diesel has been fixed at Rs 381.77 per litre.
OGRA on Friday changed the petrol and diesel prices, with the new rates taking effect from Saturday, September 5.
The price of petrol had been set at Rs345.87 per litre, and the price of diesel had been set at Rs378.5 per litre. These prices have been set for the next three days, till September 7.
The price of petrol was decreased by Rs3.13, and the price of diesel was increased by Rs3.74.
Previously, OGRA announced new prices for petroleum products. The rates of high-speed diesel and petrol were changed again.
