The Ministry of Information Technology has announced the registration process for the Prime Minister’s special petrol relief scheme, offering eligible citizens a discount of Rs100 per litre, the private media outlet reported.
The ministry said it has developed an automated digital system in collaboration with NADRA, telecom operators and provincial departments to handle registration and verify applicants.
The scheme will cover owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqi rickshaws and vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc.
Motorcycle and Qingqi rickshaw owners can receive discounted petrol for up to 20 litres per month. Those owning vehicles up to 800cc will be eligible for a maximum of 30 litres per month.
The ministry said the system will automatically verify vehicle ownership through provincial transport and excise departments.
To register, applicants must send an SMS from a SIM registered in their own name in the required format. The message must contain their CNIC number, vehicle registration number, provincial code and registration date.
Applicants who successfully complete the process will receive a confirmation message on their mobile phones.
Beneficiaries must send “TOK” to 9771 before visiting a petrol station. They will receive a token that they must present at the petrol pump to purchase petrol at the discounted price.
The discounted petrol supply will start in Islamabad on the night between Monday and Tuesday. The government plans to expand the scheme nationwide on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.
