2026 has seen a series of big-budget movies, ranging from superheroes to big sequels, animation and original stories that have brought audiences back to the theatres worldwide.
The most successful of these is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has become the biggest film of the year so far.
The blockbuster has earned more than $2.4 billion worldwide, making it not only 2026’s highest-grossing movie but also one of the biggest box office successes of all time.
The Odyssey is Christopher Nolan’s runner-up at $1.64 billion worldwide. The movie has also been one of the biggest original movie releases of the year and has been a huge part of the record-breaking summer box office season in Hollywood.
Animated movies have also been very successful. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has grossed over $1 billion globally and Toy Story 5 has grossed over $1.14 billion.
The Michael Jackson biopic Michael has also been added to the billion-dollar club, having grossed more than $1.01 billion overall and one of the biggest musical hits of the year.
