Hyundai’s all-new eighth-generation Elantra has made a strong debut in South Korea, securing 11,094 orders on its first day, setting a new record for the popular sedan nameplate.
Sold as the Avante in its home market, the new Elantra surpassed the previous first-day sales record of 10,058 orders, set by the seventh-generation model in April 2020, according to Hyundai figures cited by The Korean Car Blog.
The strong response comes as SUVs and crossovers continue to dominate global markets. Despite this trend, Hyundai has managed to attract significant interest in its conventional sedan by offering a larger body, upgraded technology, higher-end trims and an enhanced hybrid option.
Buyers show strong interest in higher trims
The top-spec Inspiration variant accounted for 52% of all first-day orders, while the Premium and Modern trims each captured 24%.
The figures indicate that buyers are willing to spend more on the new Elantra rather than simply opting for its entry-level versions. Higher trims come equipped with features including Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control 2, Highway Driving Assist 2 and dual wireless charging.
The new generation also features Hyundai’s Pleos Connect infotainment platform, while standard over-the-air software updates are available across the lineup.
Hybrid demand nearly doubles
Interest in the hybrid version has also increased significantly. The hybrid accounted for 27.5% of first-day contracts, compared with 14.8% for the outgoing generation.
The increase highlights growing consumer interest in hybrid vehicles as an alternative between traditional petrol-powered cars and fully electric vehicles, particularly in markets where EV prices and charging infrastructure remain challenges.
Hyundai has yet to complete official fuel-economy certification for the new hybrid, but the automaker is targeting better efficiency than the previous model.
What the new Elantra means for Pakistan
The latest Elantra could also attract attention in Pakistan, where Hyundai Nishat Motors continues to offer the sedan.
Hyundai introduced the Elantra 1.6 Special Edition in May 2026, with customer deliveries expected to start in August. This indicates that the company remains committed to the current-generation model in Pakistan while the eighth-generation Elantra gains momentum internationally.
If Hyundai eventually introduces the new-generation Elantra in Pakistan, its hybrid variant could prove particularly appealing amid rising fuel costs and growing interest in electrified vehicles.
However, pricing will be a key factor, as the new Elantra would face competition from established sedans such as the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla, along with the growing number of hybrid crossovers available in the Pakistani market.
Hyundai is also set to reveal its new IONIQ 9 electric SUV in the United States (US). This has raised questions about whether the Hyundai-Nishat group will officially launch it in Pakistan or not.
The vehicle marks the brand’s first full-size, three-row electric SUV.
For Pakistan, the arrival of this flagship could signal the next step in the local electric vehicle market, where Hyundai-Nishat has already introduced the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6.
IONIQ 9 Electric SUV
The IONIQ 9 is built on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform, which is also used in the Kia EV9.
This platform provides a flat floor, giving more space for passengers across three rows.
The SUV comes with a 110.3 kWh battery pack in all trims. An 800V system allows fast charging, reaching 80% charge in about 24 minutes.
Buyers will have a choice between rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD).
The top Performance AWD version produces 422 horsepower and can accelerate from 0–100 km/h in just under five seconds.
