Pakistan People’s Party district general secretary Imran Mukhlis, who was kidnapped by unidentified armed men, returned home, his family sources said on Saturday.
In the area of Ghowa Khowa of Wana, Imran Mukhlis, Pakistan People’s Party district general secretary, was kidnapped while he was on his way to pick up his family and children.
As reported by the police officials, his vehicle was intercepted by the armed assailants, they took him forcibly along with the car and was shifted to an undisclosed location.
In Lower South Waziristan, Imran Mukhlis is recognised as an active and influential political figure, so the incident caused widespread concern among residents, political circles, and his supporters.
Imran Mukhlis, is known as a spokesperson, speaking out on public issues and advocating for the rights of local communities.
It was later confirmed by the family member of the Mukhlis, that he returned home safely, in the wake of release, bringing overwhelming peace of mind to his relatives, party workers, and well-wishers.
Nonetheless, not even a single official details have yet been shared regarding the circumstances of his release or whether any ransom was paid.
This incident has once again highlighted concerns over the declining security situation in the region.
Over the past year, South Waziristan has witnessed a noticeable rise in violent incidents, including bomb blasts, targeted killings, suicide attacks, kidnappings for ransom, and assaults on police and security forces.
Local residents and political figures have voiced growing concerns over the worsening law and order conditions. They have called on the police and district administration to take swift and effective steps to restore peace in the area.
Earlier, two policemen were martyred and 22 people were injured in South Waziristan Blast. The blast happened in Wana’s Rustam Bazaar area on Saturday.
Immediately after the blast, local residents, police personnel, and rescue teams initiated relief operations and moved the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital.
Wana Circle Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Asghar Ali Shah said that the explosive material had been planted at the main entrance of the supermarket and was detonated through a remote control or a timed device.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi took notice and strongly condemned the incident. In a statement, the chief minister directed the inspector general to submit a detailed report on the incident
