iOS 27 launch expected in June with focus on AI tools, performance

Apple Inc. is expected to introduce its next iPhone software update, iOS 27, at its annual developer event on June 8, with early details pointing to a stronger focus on smart features and smoother performance.

The update is likely to be announced during the Worldwide Developers Conference keynote, followed by a developer beta release the same day. A wider public test version is expected in July, while the final rollout may arrive in September for supported iPhones.

Smarter Siri expected

One of the biggest expected changes is a redesigned Siri experience. Reports suggest Apple is working on a standalone Siri app that allows users to interact using both voice and text. The assistant may also remember past conversations, bringing it closer to chatbot-style tools such as ChatGPT and similar platforms.

The update could also introduce a new Siri interface within the Dynamic Island. Users may see a “Search or Ask” prompt along with a visual cue when activating the assistant.

Apple has also indicated that more personalised Siri features are on the way. These include the ability to pull useful details from apps like Mail and Messages, such as checking a family member’s flight or tracking reservations.

Chief executive Tim Cook recently said the company aims to deliver a more tailored Siri experience later this year.

Satellite connectivity and new tools

Another major addition could be expanded satellite connectivity. Reports suggest Apple is testing 5G satellite internet support, although this may be limited to future premium models.

New satellite-based features could include access to maps, messaging with photos, and support for third-party apps. Users may also be able to connect to satellites more easily, without needing to point their device in a specific direction.

Apple already offers services such as emergency SOS and messaging via satellite in select regions.

Focus on stability and everyday use

Unlike some previous updates, iOS 27 is expected to focus heavily on reliability and speed. The approach is being compared to Mac OS X Snow Leopard, which was known for improving performance rather than introducing major visual changes.

Users may notice fewer bugs, smoother performance, and small design refinements instead of a complete overhaul.

AI features and small improvements

The update may also bring several new artificial intelligence tools under Apple’s “Apple Intelligence” system. These include scanning food labels to track nutrition, saving contact details from printed cards, and turning physical tickets into digital versions.

The Photos app could receive new editing tools, while Safari may automatically organise tabs into groups.

Apple is also said to be testing an improved keyboard with better autocorrect suggestions, offering alternative words to make typing easier.

Device support

Early leaks suggest iOS 27 will support iPhone 12 models and newer devices. Older models such as the iPhone 11 series may not receive the update, although they are expected to continue getting security support for some time.

More advanced AI features will likely be limited to newer devices, particularly the iPhone 15 Pro and above.

While many of these features are based on reports and may change, the update points to Apple’s continued push to make the iPhone more intelligent while improving day to day reliability.
