Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif said on Monday that he is grateful to the Iranian leadership for having abiding trust in Pakistan’s ability to mediate with honesty.
He welcomed the Iranian President again and called him his brother during the meeting. The talks took place during a delegation level meeting between the two leaders.
PM Shehbaz Sharif thanked Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian for accepting his invitation to visit Pakistan. He also mentioned that Field Marshal Asim Munir made tireless efforts for peace.
The Prime Minister said he is grateful to Iran for trusting Pakistan’s efforts to help with mediation. He added that relations between the two countries are based on strong brotherhood.
He said Pakistan will continue to play its role in promoting peace and development in the region.
The Prime Minister also expressed satisfaction over the signing of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and a ceasefire understanding during the visit.
He thanked President Pezeshkian for coming to Islamabad and conveyed good wishes for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He said both countries are working towards a better and more hopeful future.
The PM also added that Iran’s ballistic missile programme was not part of the Islamabad MoU.
PM Shehbaz to visit Tehran next week
The PM also announced that he will be visiting Tehran next week on invitation, to pay respect to the late Supreme Leader Syed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He added that the visit will also be to reaffirm Pakistan’s solidarity with the brotherly people of Iran

The PM also recited Farsi poetry for the Iranian president during his speech, emphasising the close relations.
Iranian President praises Pakistan’s strong role
While talking, the Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian praised Pakistan’s strong role in the negotiations.
Masoud Pezeshkian said that Pakistan-Iran relations are not limited to the diplomatic level only, but are also deep at the public, economic and cultural levels.
He expressed his determination that the two countries will further promote cooperation in various fields.
The Iranian President, starting his address with the Persian words of Allama Iqbal, said that Iqbal’s message still provides guidance for the region and further strengthens the intellectual and spiritual ties between Pakistan and Iran.
He said that the role of Pakistan and Iran is key to lasting peace and stability in the region. Adding that both countries will have to face the challenges together.
He said that the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding was possible due to trust in Pakistan. And Pakistan played an excellent role in the negotiation process.
Before this, Field Marshal Asim Munir also met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. They discussed regional issues, development, and efforts to promote peace.
According to ISPR, the Iranian President appreciated Pakistan’s role in dialogue, de-escalation, and regional stability.
