Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) have reportedly blocked two Indian-flagged oil tankers from transiting the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy shipping route.
According to Arab media reports, the vessels came under fire while attempting to pass through the waterway. One of the ships is identified as a very large crude carrier (VLCC) supertanker.
The tankers are said to be carrying approximately 2 million barrels of Iraqi crude oil, though full details of the cargo and routing remain unconfirmed. The Strait of Hormuz, which handles nearly one-fifth of global oil shipments, remains a high-tension maritime chokepoint amid ongoing regional instability.
According to the British Maritime Agency, an incident has been reported 20 nautical miles northeast of Oman, where Revolutionary Guard gunboats approached a tanker.
The agency further stated that the gunboats opened fire on the tanker. However, the tanker and its crew are reported to be safe. At least two commercial vessels were also reportedly fired upon while attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Shipping sources say the extent of the damage could not be immediately confirmed.
