KARACHI: Global streaming platform Netflix wants to make series on Karachi’s Lyari area after the Indian propaganda movie on the area.
This was revealed by PPP senior leader and former federal minister Nabeel Gabol.
According to Nabeel Gabol, the series will be based on three series which will show its true cultural essence political struggles, power centres and the ground realities of the area.
He said that the Netflix team has contacted him and they plan to arrive in Pakistan in March to hold further talks on the plan
According to Nabeel Gabol, interest has been shown in casting Brazil’s famous actor Wagner Moura for the series, who is known for his role as Pablo Escobar in the Netflix series Narcos.
Nabeel Gabol said this character could be inspired by his own political life and experiences in Lyari.
His statement comes at a time when he has also raised objections to the character “Jameel Jamali” in the Indian film Dharandhar, saying the character does not accurately represent his real personality.
The purpose of this series is to respond to the one-sided and negative portrayal of Lyari in foreign films and dramas.
Dhurandhar has triggered strong backlash since its release for portraying Lyari as a war zone.
The film features Ranveer Singh as a RAW agent and Arjun Rampal as a Pakistani intelligence officer.
