The Pakistan Airports Authority has launched a new currency exchange facility at Islamabad International Airport to improve convenience for arriving passengers.
The newly established counter is located in the international arrivals lounge, for travellers coming from abroad to quickly convert their foreign currency into Pakistani rupees upon arrival.
The facility was inaugurated by Director Commercial Rabia Salma, along with the airport manager and members of the commercial team. Officials said the service will help passengers avoid the hassle of leaving the airport to find money exchange services, offering a smoother experience for both international and domestic travellers.
Authorities said the initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance passenger services and infrastructure at Islamabad International Airport. The airport recently earned a 3-star rating from Skytrax, becoming the first airport in Pakistan to achieve this distinction.
The rating is based on several factors, including passenger facilities, operational efficiency, and overall service standards.
Other regional airports have also been assessed under the same system. Dubai International Airport holds a similar 3-star rating, while Jinnah International Airport and Allama Iqbal International Airport continue to maintain 2-star ratings in the latest evaluation.
Officials said the new exchange counter reflects the airport’s commitment to meeting international standards and improving the overall travel experience.
Passengers arriving at Islamabad Airport can now easily access local currency immediately after landing, benefiting tourists, business travellers and returning Pakistanis. The authority added that more service upgrades and passenger facilities are planned in the near future.
Islamabad International Airport becomes fully digital
Islamabad International Airport has discontinued cash transactions at all counters, allowing passengers to settle fees and charges exclusively through mobile and digital payment methods.
This initiative aims to offer a modern, secure, and expedited travel experience.
As stated by the Pakistan Airports Authority, the new system is designed to decrease waiting times, enhance transparency, and optimize airport operations.
The implementation of digital payments is anticipated to simplify travel procedures and reduce manual transaction handling, aligning the airport with international standards.
Officials have stated that ensuring passenger convenience is a primary focus.
The cashless system is expected to improve overall airport services, facilitate more organized and efficient processes, and contribute to the advancement of sophisticated facilities.
