Are containers being lifted from Islamabad Check here (2)
Authorities in Islamabad have started removing containers placed on roads across the city. The containers were put in place more than three weeks ago due to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) planned long march.
The removal process began after the Inspector General of Police (IGP) issued instructions to the relevant authorities.

When will all containers be removed?

The IGP has directed officials to remove all containers from roads by this evening. The purpose of the move is to restore normal traffic flow across the federal capital.

Why were the containers causing problems?

The containers had remained on roads for more than three weeks. Their presence caused problems for commuters and disrupted daily travel in different parts of Islamabad.
Authorities have been told to complete the work within the given time. They must ensure that all roads are cleared by this evening.

Why was Islamabad placed on red alert?

Previously, President Asif Ali Zardari decided to impose an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) under Article 232 of the Constitution.
The decision came amid rising terrorism and a worsening law and order situation, according to a statement from the President’s House.
Following the reported emergency and governor’s rule in KP, authorities have placed Islamabad on red alert due to rising political tensions.
According to sources, large numbers of police personnel have been deployed at major intersections across the federal capital.
All superintendents of police (SPs), deputy superintendents of police (DSPs) and station house officers (SHOs) have been directed to remain in the field.
Police have been ordered to arrest anyone who violates Section 144. They have also been told to take immediate action if banners are displayed or crowds gather anywhere in the city.
More police personnel have been deployed at Islamabad’s entry and exit points. Authorities have also restricted the entry of unauthorised people into the Red Zone.
