The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has imposed a complete ban on swimming and bathing in dams, rivers, streams and other water bodies across the federal capital for two months, citing serious risks to human lives.
According to details, the ban has been imposed under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1898, with immediate effect.
An order issued by Additional District Magistrate Islamabad Dr Anam Fatima stated that swimming and bathing have been prohibited at Rawal Dam, Simly Dam, Swan River, Korang Nullah, Angoori Road Nullah, Chattar Park Nullah, Shahdara, Sunday Mar Dam and other rivers and streams in the capital.
The administration said reports had been received of citizens entering these water bodies for swimming and bathing, despite the potentially dangerous conditions. Similar incidents in the past have also resulted in tragic accidents and loss of life.
The restriction will remain in force for two months from the date of its implementation. Citizens have been advised to strictly comply with the order and avoid entering the designated water bodies during the ban.
The relevant authorities and police have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of the order and take immediate legal action against those found violating the restrictions.
The district administration has also ordered that the ban be widely publicised through the official gazette, local newspapers and other media outlets to ensure that citizens are aware of the restrictions.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid swimming or bathing in rivers, dams and nullahs, particularly in areas where strong currents and deep water can pose a serious threat to life.
