Islamabad talks: Second round likely on Sunday, says US media

Islamabad talks likely on Sunday

A second round of US–Iran peace talks is expected in Islamabad this weekend, with Sunday being considered for key discussions, according to Axios.

US President Donald Trump said in remarks to American media that negotiators from Washington and Tehran are likely to meet again soon. Sources familiar with mediation efforts say Islamabad is the probable venue.

The fresh round follows initial contacts aimed at reducing tensions after recent military escalation in the Gulf region.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump expressed optimism about a possible deal. He said negotiations “should go very quickly” as most points have already been discussed.

The US president also thanked Iran after it announced reopening of the Strait of Hormuz for commercial shipping during the ceasefire period. The waterway is a key global oil route and has remained central to the conflict.

Earlier, Washington had made reopening of the strait a key condition for ceasefire. However, tensions escalated again when Iran delayed the move, prompting the US to impose a blockade on Iranian ports.

Diplomatic observers in Pakistani media say Islamabad’s role as a mediator is gaining attention, as it hosts talks between long-time rivals at a critical moment.
