Islamabad: Online taxi, Bykea drivers to be registered

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, announced on Monday that the district administration of Islamabad has decided to register all online taxi and Bykea services officially.

The District Magistrate of the federal capital of Pakistan, Islamabad, Irfan Nawaz Memon, took to the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, to make the announcement.

According to the details, strict action will now be taken against individuals who are operating taxis and bike hailing services without registration in Islamabad.

DC Islamabad added that the Islamabad district administration has decided to formally register all online taxi and bike-hailing services.

The post added, ‘The Islamabad Police will also have access to all data on the registration form, and it will be mandatory for drivers to upload passenger details on the app.’

Under this decision, complete details of all drivers and vehicles will be collected. Islamabad Police will also have access to all this data through the registration form.

‘Without entering the passenger’s ID card number, the driver will not be allowed to take the ride,’ the post further added.

Additionally, rivers will be required to upload passenger details on the app. And they will not be allowed to carry any passenger without entering the passenger’s CNIC number.

‘Official registration will begin from tomorrow, and a strict crackdown will be launched against unregistered vehicles, bike-hailing services, and drivers,’ according to the post.

Islamabad to tackle traffic congestion

To address the increasing traffic congestion in Islamabad, the federal capital is all set to get two new avenues.

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans to restart the long-delayed 10th Avenue project and expedite the construction of 11th Avenue.

The project was announced to deal with an anticipated increase in vehicles once a new link road connecting Margalla Road to the M-1 Motorway is completed.
