ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has started Phase-II of its driving licence campaign.
The ITP has deployed mobile licensing vans at four major checkpoints of the capital. Citizens can now get learner permits on the spot.
According to APP, traffic police are checking licences at these points. Drivers without a licence or learner permit are being issued a roadside learner permit through these vans.
Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Capt. (R) Hamzah Humayun said that “No queues, no waiting now citizens can get learner permits right at checkpoints.”
He said that this step will help ensure that unlicensed driving is reduced and road safety is improved.

The CTO said that since September 1, over 140,000 new licences have been issued, and the number of licensed drivers has increased from 56% to more than 80%.
He added that ITP’s next target is 90% licensed drivers to match international standards.
The official said the initiative is part of IGP Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi’s vision to improve road safety through modern systems.
ITP has advised citizens to keep their original CNIC and driving licence while driving, warning that action will be taken against violators.

In a separate development, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) announced a traffic diversion plan for Shaheen Chowk on Margalla Road, where construction work is underway.
On Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the Rs1.3 billion Shaheen Chowk expansion project stipulated to be completed in six months.
The plan will remain in effect daily from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to ensure smooth traffic flow during rush hours.
An ITP spokesperson said on Saturday that motorists coming from E-11 and DCI Road should use the F-10 Service Road via Jinnah Avenue.
Those travelling from Ninth Avenue toward Margalla Road are advised to take a right turn from Gate 5 of F-9 Park and use F-8 Park Road instead.
Similarly, drivers moving from Margalla Road toward F-10 should turn left from Faisal Chowk to reach Jinnah Avenue or use PN Zafar Chowk (near Ali Medical Center in F-8) to access Jinnah Avenue or Ninth Avenue.
The spokesperson said that ITP personnel are deployed on various points to maintain uninterrupted traffic flow. “We regret the inconvenience caused during the diversion period,” he added.
