Actor Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan are back for their last adventure in the Jumanji franchise and the first trailer for Jumanji: Open World has arrived.
However, in this installment the stakes are different and everything is turned upside down as the film takes the concept of the series’ jungle theme and flips it.
Jumanji: Open World, directed by Jake Kasdan, will be theatrically released on December 25.
The latest sequel differs from the previous ones, in which the teenagers got drawn into a video game, as the characters of the video game get dragged into the real world causing all sorts of trouble for them as they try to get used to normal life.
The trailer follows Johnson, Black, Hart and Gillan in the real world, as they’re represented as avatars.
The challenges that ensue are hinted at when Alex Wolff’s character warns, “We have a problem. They’re video game characters, but they’re stuck in demo mode.”

The movie also reunites a handful of familiar faces as Nick Jonas, Alex Wolff, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain, Madison Iseman, Rhys Darby and Danny DeVito return, adding to the larger cast of characters for the finale of the trilogy.
Kasdan was the screenwriter for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle (2017) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019), which he also directed.
He is also a producer together with Dwayne Johnson, Matt Tolmach, and Hiram Garcia in this sequel.
The beloved franchise was newly revived by Sony and has proven to be a huge success at the box office since its launch back in 2017.
Taking inspiration from the 1981 children’s book by writer and illustrator Chris Van Allsburg and the classic 1995 Robin Williams film, Welcome to the Jungle grossed over $950 million worldwide and The Next Level grossed over $801 million worldwide.
Earlier this year, Johnson, Hart and Black revealed the movie’s name and showed off some exclusive footage during CinemaCon, where Black said he was most excited about and in the Jumanji trilogy, “Open World” was his favourite of the bunch.
